Outdoor Experience Day Volunteer
Langley Forest School (LFS) is a play-based, place-based child-emergent, all outdoors, all-weather forest school located in Williams Park and the Municipal Natural Park in beautiful Langley, BC. We are looking for an adult volunteer to support our Outdoor Experience Day (OED) Leader. This volunteer position is suitable for someone looking to work outside with 5-7 yr old children one day per week, or wishing to augment their resume with volunteering in a forest school. Forest Practitioner students may be able to complete assignments using this volunteer position.
Due to COVID19, we have many new safety and cleaning protocols. To assist the OED Leader with these protocols, LFS is looking for someone willing to be 100% outdoors with 10-12 children and the Leader each Thursday (Municipal Natural Park) OR Friday (Williams Park) from mid Sept to mid November (10 weeks). The programme runs for 5 hours each day.
Volunteers must be energetic, enthusiastic and able to work within a changing environment. The volunteer will assist the OED Leader with intake processes and will help with getting gear required for the day to the daily basecamp. Throughout the day, the volunteer will help to monitor and support children in activities and games, and help to keep the group together but ‘distanced’. At the end of the day, the volunteer will assist the OED Leader with release processes. Most of all, the volunteer will generally just have fun! The activities required will be fully dependent upon the volunteer’s comfort and skill level.
Although not necessary, a teaching background is nice; an outdoor background even better. “On the job” training is available as this volunteer position could lead to a paid OED Leader position in the future. All volunteers are required to complete a Criminal Record Check.
If you are interested in volunteering for our team, please submit a cover letter and your resume to Director@langleyforestschool.com as soon as possible.
Early Childhood Educator – Substitute/On Call
Langley Forest School (LFS) is seeking applications for an energetic, enthusiastic, creative, self-motivated Early Childhood Educator for our 100% OUTDOOR preschool program. The successful candidate will be training with our ECE Forest Practitioners, organizing and implementing a stimulating, dynamic forest preschool programme that encourages a holistic view of child development. If you can envision yourself joining our team and submerging yourself completely outdoors for our preschool day, we would love to receive your application.
LFS is a play-based, place-based child-emergent, all outdoors, all-weather forest preschool that follows a September to June curriculum for 3-5-year-old children. We are currently based out of Williams Park in Langley, BC, Monday to Friday for 4 hours each day (9:30-1:30). We are expanding to a second site in Langley, 2 days per week with morning and afternoon classes. Both locations are spaces where children learn in a natural environment that focuses on student-led learning and environmental stewardship.
LFS offers a competitive wage, paid vacation days and holidays, clothing allowance, professional development opportunities, with time and supplies to implement program-specific strategies, all in a close-knit community school with a strong Board and parental support. If there is a qualified applicant who can provide a strong commitment to the school, LFS may be able to arrange funds for the right candidate to obtain forest practitioner training. If you are interested in joining our team, please submit a cover letter, two references and your resume to Director@langleyforestschool.com.
