Outdoor Experience Day (OED) LEADER

Langley Forest School (LFS) is a play-based, place-based child-emergent, all outdoors, all-weather forest school located in Williams Park and the Municipal Natural Park in beautiful Langley, BC. We are looking for an outdoor educator for 5-7 year olds for 4.5 hours (9:30am to 2pm) on Thursdays and/or Fridays. Our OED program runs in a 10-class series from April to June and this position may expand to further opportunities with LFS.

The OED Leader is a facilitator, with nature as the true educator. OEDs follow a forest school pedagogy (child-centred, play-based). The Leader will inspire observation and organize materials, resources, and experiences that expand creative, imaginative, and exploratory play; engaging children as partners in the learning process and weaving in environmental stewardship and nature conservancy.

Classes will be held in Williams Park and/or the Municipal Natural Park in an all outdoor environment, with the support of an Assistant throughout the class. The Leader will be responsible for developing the day to day programming utilizing a Langley Forest School designed framework and routine and for communicating with families on a regular basis.

Payment is relative to experience and education, beginning at $25/hr. Preparation, safety assessment and interfacing with families are paid at the same rate at an additional 1.5 hrs/week (total 6 hrs/wk).

An educational background, experience with the outdoors and class management skills are required for this position. A consumable supplies budget is available.

Outdoor Experience Day (OED) ASSISTANT

Langley Forest School (LFS) is a play-based, place-based child-emergent, all outdoors, all-weather forest school located in Williams Park and the Municipal Natural Park in beautiful Langley, BC. We are looking for an outdoor educator for 5-7 year olds for 4.5 hours (9:30am to 2pm) on Thursdays and/or Fridays. Our OED program runs in a 10-class series from April to June and this position may expand to further opportunities with LFS.

The OED Assistant works to support the OED Leader. OEDs follow a forest school pedagogy (child-centred, play-based). The Assistant helps with the provision of outdoor programming as designed by the OED Leader (works with the children requiring support, helps to carry equipment and supplies, assists with the intake and release processes and hand washing, facilitates safety practices, etc). The Assistant is not responsible for developing the day to day programming.

Payment is relative to experience and education, beginning at $22hr. 

An educational background, experience with the outdoors and class management skills are an asset for this position.

Early Childhood Educator – Substitute/On Call

Langley Forest School (LFS) is seeking applications for an energetic, enthusiastic, creative, self-motivated Early Childhood Educator for our 100% OUTDOOR preschool program. The successful candidate will be training with our ECE Forest Practitioners, organizing and implementing a stimulating, dynamic forest preschool programme that encourages a holistic view of child development. LFS is a play-based, place-based child-emergent, all outdoors, all-weather forest preschool that follows a September to June curriculum for 3-5-year-old children. We are currently based out of Williams Park in Langley, BC, Monday to Friday for 4 hours each day (9:30-1:30). We are expanding to a second site in Langley, 2 days per week with morning and afternoon classes. Both locations are spaces where children learn in a natural environment that focuses on student-led learning and environmental stewardship.
